In the current developer build of 10.6.2, Apple appears to have changed around a lot of CPU related information. One of the effects of this is Apple killing off Intel’s Atom chip.

Here are Atom users future options…

A) Stay with Leopard 10.5.8 (10.5.9 might have the same effect as 10.6.2)

B) Stay with Snow Leopard 10.6.1

C) Upgrade to 10.6.2 and use either the stock 10.0.0 kernel or use modded Snow kernels

Among other things, Sleepenabler.KEXT is now ineffective and will need a new version. It is now suggested to run CPUPM with a proper DSDT.

Wow, didn’t expect to get linked all over the internet for this damn post. Anyways, in the latest development build Atom appears to have resurrected itself zombie style in 10C535. The Atom lives another day, but nothing is concrete until the final version of 10.6.2 is out.
